A spinnaker turns light air and downwind legs from motoring into sailing, keeping the boat moving on broad reaches and runs when a genoa alone would leave it wallowing.
We build asymmetric and symmetric spinnakers in rip-stop nylon, with handling aids and options to suit your boat and crew. Both types can be priced online on your boat's page, or quoted from your measurements.
An asymmetric spinnaker has a longer luff than leech and is flown from a tack line at the bow or bowsprit, so it needs no pole. That makes it easy to hoist, gybe and douse without heavy deck gear, and ideal for cruisers, family boats and short-handed crews. Depending on its cut and the conditions, it covers apparent wind angles from roughly 60° to 150°, from reaching to broad reaching. "Gennaker" and "cruising chute" are common names for the same sail. Tell us your usual wind angles and we will shape it to suit.
A symmetric spinnaker has two equal luffs and is flown from a spinnaker pole, which holds the windward corner out to project the sail clear of the mainsail. It performs best on deep downwind angles, runs and broad runs, where an asymmetric would be blanketed by the main. It is the natural choice for windward-leeward racing, downwind rallies and boats already fitted with a pole, topping lift and guys. We shape it to your rig, masthead or fractional, and your expected wind range.
A spinnaker sock, or snuffer, encloses the sail in a fabric sleeve that you pull up to set it and down to douse it, so one person can handle a large sail under control. It is especially valuable for two-up crews and anyone new to downwind sails, and we make each sock to suit your spinnaker's luff length. A turtle bag keeps the packed sail organised at the forehatch or pulpit, ready to hoist, which makes sets and drops more predictable and reduces the risk of twists.
Every spinnaker comes with extra-strong corner patches at head, tack and clew, leech and foot lines, and a sail bag. When you price your boat you can add a sock to suit, a turtle bag, an anti-twist luff rope so the sail can be furled, a UV strip on the leech and foot for a sail left rigged, sail numbers and class insignia. Select the options you want and the price updates instantly.
Sailcloth
Every spinnaker we build is rip-stop nylon. Its grid of reinforcing threads stops a small tear from running, while the cloth stays light enough to fill and fly in the gentlest breeze, which is exactly what a downwind sail needs.
Construction
Panels designed in ProSail: Each spinnaker is designed in ProSail and digitally plotted, so every panel is cut accurately before assembly. The panel layout follows the load paths from head, tack and clew, helping the sail hold its designed shape as the breeze builds. Read more in our sailcloth guide.
Why the corners matter: A spinnaker is held at just three points, head, tack and clew, and those corners take the highest loads, especially in gusts or when a sheet is released suddenly. Without proper reinforcement, shock loads can distort or tear the sail, which is why every spinnaker we build has extra-strong corner patches as standard.
Details that come as standard: Leech and foot lines to control flutter, extra-strong corner patches and a sail bag for storage come with every spinnaker. Materials and workmanship are covered by our one-year warranty, for real-world sailing where sails face UV, salt and repeated handling.
Our spinnakers are developed in ProSail, digitally plotted and finished by hand by our own team in Phuket. You deal directly with the people who design and build your sail.

Every spinnaker leaves the loft with extra-strong corner patches at head, tack and clew, leech and foot lines, and a sail bag, all as standard.
Each sail is backed by a one-year warranty on materials and workmanship, and our 4.7-star Google rating reflects the fit, communication and build quality sailors get. Read the reviews before you order.
FAQ
Price depends on your boat, the type (asymmetric or symmetric) and options such as a sock, turtle bag or UV strip. For a typical 30 ft cruiser, asymmetric spinnakers start from around $1,200, with symmetric spinnakers a little more. Search your boat among 12,000+ models for an instant price, or request a quote from your measurements. Every price includes rip-stop nylon, reinforced corners, leech and foot lines and a sail bag.
For most cruisers and short-handed crews an asymmetric is the better choice: it needs no pole, is easier to handle, and is at its best on reaches and broad reaches. A symmetric suits boats with a pole and crews who sail deep downwind legs or race windward-leeward courses. Tell us your usual wind angles and crew numbers and we will advise.
In practice, yes. "Gennaker" and "cruising chute" are common names for an asymmetric spinnaker flown from a tack line without a pole, and spinnakers in general are often called kites or chutes. We treat them as one family of sail, with the shape and size tailored to your boat and wind range, so use whichever name you prefer when you ask for a quote.
A sock is not essential, but we strongly recommend one for short-handed crews, family boats and anyone new to flying a spinnaker. It makes hoists and drops simpler by containing the sail in a fabric sleeve, reducing the risk of wraps and foredeck drama. We make each sock to suit your spinnaker's luff length.
Yes, with the right set-up. An asymmetric with a sock and a tack line is the most manageable arrangement for two-up or solo sailing. Use a reliable autopilot or a dedicated helm, keep the foredeck clear, lead the sheets within reach of the helm and choose a sensible sail area, because a spinnaker needs regular trimming to stay full. We can advise on sheet leads and tack points.
A spinnaker is a true downwind sail for broad reaches and runs. A code zero is flatter, made for closer reaching in light air, and is usually set on a furler. If most of your miles are off the wind, on rallies or trade-wind passages, a spinnaker is usually the best first downwind sail, and many cruisers go on to carry both.
Typical lead time is 4–6 weeks from confirmed order to dispatch from our Phuket loft, plus shipping. Timing varies a little with the season and destination, and you receive tracking once the sail ships. Order early before a major passage or regatta, so there is time for a few practice sets before you need it.
